Zostrix HP Topical Analgesic Cream 45g

Zostrix is for pain relief associated with shingles and diabetic neuropathy. 

Zostrix is a white topical analgesic cream made from purified capsaicin, a natural extract from chili peppers. Capsaicin is believed to act on a substance in the body, which is involved in transmission of pain impulses, known as Substance P. It is believed that regular application of capsaicin (Zostrix HP) to the affected area will in time reduce the amount of Substance P in nearby nerve endings. With less of Substance P present, pain may be less intense and in some cases, there may be a cessation of pain. Zostrix works gradually.

Zostrix-HP contains 0.075% w/w of capsaicin as the active ingredient.

It also contains: Arlacel 165, Benzyl alcohol, Cetyl alcohol, Isopropyl myristate, Soft white paraffin, Sorbitol solution & Purified water.

This medicine does not contain lactose, sucrose, gluten, tartrazine, or any azo dyes.

For use in adults and children 2 years of age and older:

1. Apply Zostrix 3 to 4 times a day, every day. Apply just enough to cover the affected area (a small fingertip is usually enough).

2. Massage Zostrix cream into the skin on the front, back and sides of the affected area until no residue remains.

3. Unless treating hands, always wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after the application and avoid contact with sensitive areas, such as eyes.

Always read the label. Use only as directed. If symptoms persist consult your pharmacist or your Healthcare Professional.  For external use only. Avoid the eyes.

Do not use this medicine on active shingles.

Do not use if you are allergic to any medicine containing capsaicin or any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.

Do not apply Zostrix Cream to broken or irritated skin. Zostrix Cream is not suitable for children. The safety of use of Zostrix Cream in pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established.

Reactions Zostrix Cream may cause a brief burning feeling when applied. This burning is more common when Zostrix Cream is used less than 3 - 4 times a day or too much Zostrix Cream is used or if Zostrix Cream is applied just before or after a bath or shower.

Patients should avoid taking a hot bath/shower just before or after applying Zostrix, as it can enhance the burning sensation.

Tight bandages should not be applied on top of Zostrix cream.
